VFR750 bar swap
 

hi all, I tried the "search" tool, but it didn't do it for me ...my question is about the handlebar swap with 90s VFR750. Maybe I should be askin this on the VFR site, I know about, but since I'm trying to put 'em on a VTR1K,I'll ask here: which years VFR bars work on the 98 VTR1000? One place on this site said '94-'97 models all interchange. I found some '92 model bars, and I also thought all the VFRs were similar thru the 90s prior to the intro of 800cc bike. Or should I just spend some money I don't have on the aftermarket option. The stock bars, don't work for my wrists/comfort.What aftermarket options are any of you folks using ? Thanx for any assist...

A quick search combined with some reverse part no lookup told me in less than 30 seconds that the VFR750 had identical handlebars from 90 to 97... Then in 98, the VFR800 turned up, and stayed the same (handlebars) to 01... And then, a new set from 02 to 08...

The VFR800 has had 43 mm legs all the time (unsure about the VFR750), so the difference here is in the angle/width/whatever of the bars, not the clamp... All of them should work, but which gives more preferable results is unknown...

Buy them cheap on eBay, get one set of each, and pick the one you like... Then sell of the remains... Or go aftermarket...

As indicated above they all "fit", but some don’t fit well and I hit the fairing.
.. some are taller, some lower, I used the tallest set.....and trimmed the underside of the fairing just a little.
I also did away with the OEM brake switch, as it did not let me angle the levers the way I wanted to (hit the clip on), so I use a banjo fitting Hyd switch.
Pretty sure mine are from a 98…. But I’d have to dig up notes at home,,, and that wont happen till MAY 2012

There is/was a comprehensive replacement instructions in the Knowledge Base section.

Tweety is not entirely correct on the sizes.
The 3rd and 4th Gen VFR(750) had 37mm forks (90-97)
The 5th Gen VFR(800) had 41mm forks (98-01) &
The 6th Gen VFR(800) had 43mm forks (02-Current)

Since the SH uses 41mm forks, the 5th Gen clipons are a direct bolt on. I'm running VFR800 Helibars on mine but I'd rather have VFR800 Clipons.

I'd be up for something I can bolt on. I just swapped fairings from a yellow '99 bike, and had to buy a new OEM rightside, so I ain't trying to "trim" it. I just wanna ride this fall. I hate to keep dumping money on this bike, but I mite go helibar, if something definative doesn't happen soon.If anyone wants the remains of the '99 bike,w 22k miles, now red, send me a pm. It's not wrecked, just a runner I bought for the cool,sorta unusual HRC yellow plastics/solo seat, to make mine a better bike.It's got paper,and stock bars...
