using meter to test rg/rect?

OK, I am installing a reg/rect from an 2006 R1. Got it to fit, checked wiring schematics for both the R1 and my VTR. It seems very obvious which wire goes where. Red/wht of VTR is hot and the Grn is neg. Double Grn wire with grommet is bolted to reg and thus ground. Hooked it all up and popped the main fuse. Did it again and popped another. Started checking everything and all looks good. Got out tester and I am getting almost no resistance between pos and neg terminals of R1 reg/rect.....that can't be right. I did most of this last night and so now can't find the stock VTR reg to check IT. Any ideas???
OK...more data...very carefule checking with ohmmeter from hot spade to neg spade of R1 RR shows a spike towards no resistance but immediately drops to zero and further touches of connector immediately afterwards show little to no flow. If I wait a minute and check again it spikes again and then the same drop in continuity...what the hell???
Still can't find that dang VTR RR to see if it does the same. #$%^&*. I've looked in the trash, the recycling, the car, all my boxes of bike stuff etc etc. AAACK!

Need help dtermining which wire goes where...

At least I FINALLY found the stock RR!!!:shock: :oops:
Of course, when I installed the R1 unit, I had to destroy the stock connector to get the Fspades out and so now do not know which Mspade in the RR gets the hot and which the Gnd. I'm putting the stocker back in until I can cort out the R1 problem. Who can check their's for me and tell me which wire goes to which Mspade? Looking face on at the RR...the three Mspades on top are the stator wires...below on left is either hot or neg...below on right is either hot or neg. Which is which? C'mon guys.....

Did we help? Looks like you did a bravo job pulling the boot straps all by yourself. Carry on! :thumbsup:

Here's a how-to webpage

This guy used an older R1 R/R, so that's what I bought on ebay. It worked great for me. I'm not sure how the newer R1 R/Rs are set up though.

Yes well...I will be looking for another RR now. The one I had bought turned out to be fried. The seller was a stand-up guy though and instantly PayPal'ed my money back to me. A wondeful thing these days...three cheers to Chaz!
I had spent alot of time getting the right bolts, drilling mounts, routing wires...oh well. If I find the same year RR I'll just redo it.
I was surprised I didn't get a single response from the board here though....:shock:

Well you did kinda only have the post up for a day. I wouldnt have been able to help you out with any of the ohm meter readings or anything, but I was either going to say that you RR was fried or you hooked up something wrong. I got an 03 R1 RR and dremeld back about 1cm of the black housing to expose the spades out and still have them connected to each other. Then I switched the two top spade receivers on the VTR harness to match with the R1s and Voila. Fit right in, fairly snug, taped it up and its good to go.
