Two questions regarding modifying my SuperHawk

As I'm installing the Ape MCCTs, I notice that I have easy access to the shock and pair valves. Sooooo, I'm thinking about changing the rear height using shims and removing the pair valves.

1) Pair valve - How do you get the little nut off? This picture is what I'm referring to. That nut is recessed really deep, and I can't seem to reach it with any type or wrench or socket. Any advice?

2) Rear Shock & Shim - Where do I insert the shim? Is it at the top of the mounting bolt, above the frame? Or below the frame, between the upside-down "U" and the frame?

TIA for any help.

1) Don't know, I just plug the port with a rubber cork and re-attach the hose.

2) Install the shim UNDER the brace and above the "gold" color upper bracket. If you install it above the brace, you will have succesfullly raised the nut "5" mm (or whatever shim size you're using)!

The PAIR valve comes right out of there. I just put a screwdriver through the little window and gently pried it out. On the other side of the captured nut is a small phillips head screw, which you can easily remove to turn over the valve stop.
