trouble shifting... need help!
hey guys, i need some help here. well, as i was coming home i tried to downshift from 4th to 3rd but the transmission just would not budge. when i got home i managed to shift the bike into neutral (with my hand). the bike will UP shift easily but down shifting is quite a chore. i can't get the bike into 1st, the furthest it'll go down is into N. has this happened to anybody before, it happened without warning. thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: trouble shifting... need help!
a wild guess...bleed your clutch slave cylinder ....if you have old fluid and or air in your clutch, you won't be able to spread the disc's apart far enough to shift....hope this helps.....standzchop

Also check the clutch plates for warping. Other than that, your options are expensive.

i totally forgot about this post. well the next morning (in some daylight) i inspected the shift linkage and found that i couldn't down shift because the end of the linkage assembly was hitting the rubber exhaust bung directly behind the linkage. i just took the linkage off of the spline and rotated it a couple of notches and everything is tip top. i'm guessing the previous owner had adjusted it that way to have a more aggresive shifting stance. (?????) well thanks for the replies guys.

the only thing i was wondering was, how did it suddenly happen... i rode it for 2-3 weeks without any problems and then it just happened.

If the pinch bolt got loose and you down shifted hard it could've moved on you. I lost my pinch bolt once when I went off the track! The vibration loosened it then slamming it down caused it to pop off.
