top yoke nut removal

Ok now this is probably a noob question but dont laugh at me

Ive never removed yokes from a bike before or had the necessity to ever undo a top yoke nut

so

can i take my top yoke nut off and replace it easily as it looks like crap and i want an anodised one

or if i undo it will my forks fall out or something lol

thanks lads

yes you can remove it. there is a nut and retaining washer under it that sets the torque on the head bearings.

btw: if you go anodized get some plumbing teflon tape and wrap it around the new nut to
prevent scratching it up as you tighten it.

good call on the tape!

so i can just remove it and screw the new one on but ill need to make sure its at the right torque when i put it back on? what torque setting should it be at?
