this is a stupid person question but ...im installing my cct and ive got all the steps off the form and a part of the step is to but the bike in 6th gear and rotate the rear tire to get tdc.. well is there another way to rotate the engine to get tdc? ive got the rear valve cover off and in stuck finding tdc..

Yes, but it requires turning the crank manually. The easiest way I found to find tdc was to put the bike on a rear stand, put it in sixth, then gently bump the rear wheel until you line up the timing marks on the flywheel. It takes very little tire movement to rotate the flywheel, so it is easy to pass the mark.

thanks for the input, thats how my instrustions read but i just turned it manually. i tried the 6th gear deal but i couldnt get it to move.

I had the same problem, put it on the stand in 6th gear and turn the crank bolt with the correct size socket. Turning the wheel by hand didnt cut it (for me) but the socket and extension did it. Hope this helps...

Try first gear if you don't want to turn the crank. Pulling the plugs will help by removing the compression.

ya i just turned the crank with a 17mm socket. i got the cct on. the instructions say for the chain to have 1/4" play. i also removed the restrictor from under the carb and cut the rubber smooth. .. my new deal is the plastic screw fitting that holds the choke to the carb. well it broke. trying to find a replacement.

Sorry I didn't post sooner but glad you figured it out! I too used a socket on the crank.

1/4" play is a good place to be, but you will want to do it by ear also. Let it warm up, then slowly back out one tensioner until it starts to get noisy, then tighten it until the noise stops and lock it down. Same for the rear.
