Tank Bag and Rough Throttle Response

Hey all, I just bought a tank bag for long road trips and noticed something strange with it. Whe I have the tank bag mounted on the tank as far back as it can go the bike runs great. The problem is that it gets in the way of leaning during sport riding. I pushed the bag forward on the tank so that it is right near the handle bars and noticed that the bike has serious rough throttle response from 5K and above. When I pull the tank bag back to it's original position the throttle respone is fine. The bag is magnetic and I have the front strap going in front of the tank and under the top frame rail. I am wondering if the strap gets loose when I push the tank forward and that is blocking air to the carbs? Any thoughts on this ?

After closer inspection it looks like I was correct in that the tank bag strap was blocking part of the intake snorkel and when it was loose it must have gotten sucked into the snorkel. I'm wondering if I should remove the snorkel now or try and re-route the stap.

Reroute or cut off the excess strap. The snorkel is a piece of million dollar engineering investment that keeps your midrange power happy.

Ha ha, thanks for the response. After some searching I agree that the snorkel is not worth touching.

Tank Bag

I'm using a MotoPak Magnetic bag on my naked VTR and have seen 136 ( indicated )without it coming off, even without a strap. See my Avatar.

Don't touch the snorkel but if you feel safer with the strap go under the front tank mount instead of the frame.

I ended up going under the frame but in front of the snorkel. I just put the strap on and then put the top of the air box back on. We'll see if it works tomorrow. Thanks for the replies.

The bike ran great with the strap rerouted.

Thanks for the update, that's a valuable bit of information.
