stuttering, bucking, misfiring at steady 2-4k rpm

The superhawk is acting up. At steady speed between 2000-4000rpm, like going 30mph, the engine "hiccups" quite a bit. It sounds like a misfire, engine bucks and then smooths out. I think it's running lean, but I'm not sure. I have devil pipes and a K&N jet kit. The jet kit has been in place for 22,000 miles with no problems before.

I'm thinking about re-syncing the carbs and checking for vacuum leaks. Maybe I should also change the plugs. Any other suggestions? Anyone have this problem?

It runs great while accelerating or running on the highway.

Mine was behaving identically and in roughly the same condition (jet kit, pipes, mileage) as yours. Going up a notch on the needles did the trick.

Raise the needles a notch, or raise the clip a notch on the needles?

+1

Then sync the carbs. Clean your air filter too.

I think he meant go richer, which would be lowering the clip, thus raising the needle.

Are the needles titanium?

No, stainless steel. I just raised them a notch this afternoon and re-sync'd the carbs too. I'll do a test ride tomorrow and report back.
