Stator Resistance at 2.5 Ohms??? Toasted??
 

My multimeter is showing 2.4-2.5 resistance across all three yellow wires. Is my stator toast? Have had two (non-mosfet) r/r's fail. They were cheap ebay parts, but still.....one was charging battery at 13.4(idle)-19vdc at 5000rpm, another around a steady 4.80 at all rpm. Checking stator....putting out same ac across all three wires, I forgot the number. The manual spec resistance is .2-.5 ohm...Thanks!

If you have a charge above 14.6-14.8v at the battery while the bike is idling, or under load, you have a faulty RR.
As far as the stator goes, it's more complex than just verifiing resistance. There is a trick with sending a 110 volt with an electric wire, and a light bulb that you can do to check the stator if it's good or not, but for the life of me, I can't remember how since it's been way too long the last time I did this trick.

Yep a bad r/r for sure, I've confirmed that. Been through two of them, so I was trying to get to the root cause of the issue, why they keep failing. I just ordered a Rick's mosfet, want to confirm my stator is functioning correctly before installing and potentially blowing another...

Great link, thanks! My meter (Harbor Freight cheapie) is showing almost exactly same resistance across all three....again about 2.5. Should i be moving a decimal point? I have the meter set at 200 setting....

I think if you go up one notch on the meter scale you will get ~.25. Also check all three stator wires (yellow) to see if they are shorted to ground.

They keep failing because the stock shunt style r/r is a piece of excrement.

Don't worry about the resistance across the the three wires so much as to ground, and ac voltage output when running.
It should read infinite to ground, and the AC voltage output is listed in the service manual. If you've got a short in the battery, poor connections or had ground it will work a shunt type regulator to death and can fry it all. I had to replace the regulator and stator both on mine for this reason.
Odd thing was the battery would start the bike ok.
I upgraded to an R1 regulator, finessed the wiring, and never had anymore problems.
