Starter Motor Swap

Yesterday I went to start Scarlett and she cranked 1 revolution and stopped. Battery is good. Checked as many connections as I could without a teardown and all seemed ok. No joy with a jump start just lots of solenoid clicking and warm starter cable.

After much swearing I tapped the starter with a hammer and hit the button and she bellowed into life.

So, apparently some other Honda starters fit. Which ones? Straight swap or does the mount have to be swapped as well?

If you look at any fiche you can find the Honda part number for the starter. Using that you can reverse part search which bikes it's used on:

Starter:
31200-MAT-003

Where used:

The starter for those will work as direct bolt on, or you can just search e-bay for the part number.

Check Hornets, CBRs - basically any 600cc+ Honda from late 90s/early 00s

You can also rebuild your starter. eBay has rebuild kits Click here.

I had an electrical issue with my bike, and one of the things I tried was taking the starter apart and cleaning it. Although, a rebuild would've been just the same. Here's the thread click here. Post #12 has the pictures of the starter apart. It is really simple. Plus, since it was apart, I cleaned everything and painted it. It still looks fantastic today. Don't bother reading the whole thread. At the end, I replaced the entire wire harness and fixed it (I think it was a ground issue)
