Springs for rough roads????
 

OK... sorry this is long...

All this fork talk the past couple days and I've even got more of an itch to do something about my forks. I still have the stock springs, valves, etc, and have been living with all the typical crap everyone else complains about.....

SO.... I'd like to know if anyone lives in a big city with tons of traffic, and where the roads are more like driving on a MX track than a street.... Have you changed your springs to a heavier set (like race techs) and are you still happy???

The roads here in NYC area are absolute garbage, I've lived a little further south (Raleigh, North Carolina) and the worst road there would be a pleasure cruz up here... just trying to find out if anyones made the swap and found the change to make matters worse do to road conditions and a stiffer front.... or did it make things much better as everyone seems to claim...

I'm about 170lbs, don't ride that hard, and I will most likely never do a track day.... I just am a little nervous of switching everything out and winding up needing a mouth piece to ride around!!!

Denver roads are rough. I set the front suspension to stock setting, and the rear to max-soft all-the-way-down. Works decent. Don't lock your arms and ride like a jockey. Works for me.

I live in PA, where the roads are terrible on a good day. The stock suspension was absolutely horrid. I changed springs and valves in the forks and it is much more comfortable. The fork absorbs the bumps (craters) now instead of transmitting them up to the bars.

If you aren't going to do trackdays then valves aren't necessary. I got them really cheap on ebay so I did both.

Get the springs. It's cheap, easy, and definetly makes the hawk a new bike.

mikecronis.... that's almost the exact set-up I have right now... I think I'm one click up on the rear from the softest setting otherwise it's pretty soft.

I figured hearing all the good things about upgraded springs was worth it, just didn't know how far to dig into the forks... valves, etc.... looks like I'll defintely do the springs... And I hear you on the crater roads.... there's basically 2 types of holes here in NYC.... bang that sucked, and bang that sucked I need to pull over and check to see if I still have my chin fairing!!!!
