Speedo not working
Suddenly lost the speedo, the mileage counter shows but does not work.
As the sensor is £140 does anyone know if this likely to be the sensor or the clock itself? There is power in all the right places, but I dont want to spend hundreds of pounds on a wild goose chase! |
Check wiring and fuses first.

down the road, still had little bugs in the system, might be good to clean all wiring ends and such to get a good clean contact. |
Thanks have tried this and all seems good, fuse replaced. Mechanic also looked and still no further. Wonder if it could be the gauge itself, is there a way of checking it out?

i would say take the speedo off and check wiring, could be rusty, bad connection or maybe wire/wires fell apart from rusting.start from speedo and work from there.

Well as with any VTR electrical issue, the first step would be to first check and clean all the ground connections. Second would be check the all the plug connectors are clean and fully seated.
Then start checking components. ;) |
According to the UK VTR site and the bike breakers I tried the sensor seems to be a weak point, so having tried the connections, I ordered one from a breaker for £35, just hope its not a dud.......
Very annoying that you guys pay so much less for them (Ron Ayers $61) UK £140  |
Well two helpings of good news!!
Firstly the rather sad looking sensor arrived, was fitted to the bike and it worked.. Secondly even after all the time taken trying to trace the fault they said "Have it as a freebie"!:winner: OK I have been using these guys for 30 years but still nice.. |
