speedo inop, and lean pop on decel

If any of you can help me I would be very greatful. This is my 1st superhawk, I am a M/C technician, so I'm not helpless. My bike has seen some hard miles, it pops and backfires on decel even with choke applied and part of the air box intake blocked off. So I think its in the air valve on the carb, and not the jetting but I'm not sure. It has a full jardine exh system, and I've been through the carbs, but could use a schematic if someone has one. Also my speedo is inop and w/o a manual idk where to start, odometer says ------ constantly. Any help would be great.

service manual available in KB
PAIR removal procedure in KB, may be your popping issue
check fuses for instrument cluster - maybe?

speedo problem = regulator/rectifier... might be the fix to both your problems.

Listen to Residentg. the popping is most likely coming from your PAIR. This is an emissions system that pulses air into the exhaust to burn off excess fuel. when you decel hard it dumps raw fuel into the exhaust which is then ignited by the pulse of air and creates a loud pop which is usually accompanied by some flames. Mine popped really loud when i had holes drilled in the muffler but when i removed the baffles completely the sound mellowed out quite a bit.

boy that's a weird speedo problem, ------ is very unusual, I agree with checking the R/R for proper operation

when my r/r went, the tell tale sign was the speedo... also the bike ran like shit just prior to, stumble and fuel like symptoms... a r1 r/r fixed all that.
