Six-Piston Question

hey guys so i recently bought a pair of six piston calipers from ebay for the hawk and my question is how do you reset the pistons to install new pads

just was wondering if you guys that have them had some secret way or something, all the tools i have are for automotive ones and wont fit a motorcycle caliper

Tweety 04-26-2010 04:41 AM

If there are old pads in there just use a screwdriver, if not use a plastic something to not scrape the pistons up...

I would rebuild them before using them - you never know what they have been through.

+1 rebuild them, it's fun and satisfying. If theres one thing you want to be sure will work it's your brakes. I'm glad I opened up my F4i calipers, apparently someone mutilated a honey bear in there.

Tweety answered your question for you! The rest is solid advice, but not related to your question.

yea thanks guys, the calipers are in really good shape i'm not going to rebuild them right now

but thanks for the advice

oh one more question are the mounting bolts the same from the superhawk to the gsxr because the calipers i got didn't come with mounting bolts, can i use the sh ones or do i need to buy a set

i don't want to pull it apart and lay it up because i cant bolt them on, looking for as little down time as possible

I used the bolts from my SH when installing the six pots, worked fine.

Stop all mods > Until U do suspension.

Ohlins Rear & Racetech upfront - U will thank me later -I swear best mod ever

actually i'm quite happy with the suspension as it is, i don't have the money to drop in to that anyways i got the calipers for 70 bucks i couldn't pass it up

I would say Brakes are right up there with Suspension for importance of improving.

The stock brakes are so bad it isn't even funny. And if he weighs in the 150lb range the stock suspension is not that horrible..

So true - but I've not seen that weight in a while - most sport bike suspensions are set for peeps about 160 to 170.
