Shock Rebuild for YSS
 

Hi all. I am looking for info on a how to for YSS shocks. It is a fully rebuildable shock, but I couldnt figure it out (yet). If anyone has done one that would be helpful.

From what I understand they are the same as pretty much any other shock. Anything in particular you are having trouble with?

Getting the seal head out. Give me a shout 920-6276734. I am heading over to the shop right now.

Here is the deal so far. It is an emulsion shock, they have a plate that holds the seal in (spanner to remove) and then the seal is visible. It wont slide-hammer out, the top is not removable (without heat?), and pressurizing the shock with 160psi shop air wont blow it out. Any ideas?

Did you debur the retaining ring groove first? This often helps. Even so, getting the seal head out usually requires hitting the lower clevis up with a plastic mallet or rubber hammer. It should come out then.

To no avail. They also need to do some R and D as the shocks have multiple fitment issues. I am hoping to help them out for helping us out.

Are you sure there is not multiple retaining rings on the seal head? Some offroad shocks are like that and can be a real pain.

What bike is this shock from?

It is an after market shock. It isnt a seal head. It has a seal retaining plate, a seal, and than ???? Removing seal is impossible without damaging it unless there is a secret move, like up down up down left A B A B select, but I tried that one.

Are you sure the seal head cannot be removed from the body of the shock? The internal parts had to get in there somehow. Here are some tips:

1) Some seal heads have more than one retaining ring that hold them in place.
2) Some retaining rings require that you drill a hole through the body of the shock so you can 'push' the ring in from the outside. This only happens in the cases where the seal head cannot be pushed in to fully expose the ring.

That shows a standard seal head arrangement. Keep at it, I'm sure you can get it out!

I will let you know out. This is for the HS build and there have been some developments on the YSS business front for some help.
