Shinko tires?
 

Has anyone had any experience with shinko tires? I'm sure you get what you pay for but if anyone has had good experiences they would be a bargain. Thanks.

I have a rear shinko on.. They are okay tires, grip pretty good but its nothing like a michellin pilot or a Dunlop.. If you looking for a smooth comfortable ride then you should just spend more for the pilot or a dunlop.. But if you running low on budget then this is the tire for you. Rain is no problem to the tire. Max speed is 168 don't worry hawk only go 155 anyway.

I've drug my knee at the track running a Shinko 005. The 003 or 009 should grip a bit better than the 005 too. If money is tight, they are a reasonable option.

We call the Stinkos in the shop. I wouldnt. Jakewilson.com sells sets dirt cheap of other brands. I am a B-Stone fan myself. BT016's for $200.00 delivered

I've got a shinko 005 on my rear right now (it came on the bike when i bought it) no complaints, but I'm no track rider. I ride the occasional mountain twisties but no knee dragging. I had a B'stone BT45 on my old Kan-of-Tuna and it was fine for around town riding but didn't like it in curves....across the board, on this forum and Katriders.com (for Katanas) and from my buddy who used to race a Gixxer Michelin Pilots are the best tire on the market right now.

I don't ride super agressive (yet). This is my first streetbike so i wont be throwing extreme lean angles at this tire for a while. Im more concerned with being able to stop and ride through a little rain if i need to. So, i think im gonna buy the 005. Since im on a strict budget it is ride on a bargain tire or not ride at all considering my current front tire is showing cords. Thanks for your opinions and i will post periodically to let you guys know what i think of the tire.

I haven't had any issues at all with my 005 rear on my VFR. The only reason I bought it is because my local shop happened to have one in stock and I needed a tire that day (I had a medium-slow leak.)

I'm not a track rider but I ride somewhat aggressively and haven't had any trouble with it. Not saying I'm not gonna buy BT021's or 023's next time (I just like Bridgestone) but in a pinch, I'd certainly put another 005 on.

I'm sorry to dissapoint the Bridgestone and Michelin guys but I bought the Shinko for the front. Like i said im not real aggressive in the turns yet but as I get more ballsy i will let you know if it loses grip. Im sure you will see a post titled "need new fairings cheap" but I paid 100 bucks total. That is with shipping and mount and balence by my honda dealer. the tire alone was 71 SHIPPED!

About three or four years ago Shinko 009 Ravens (sport-touring) were very affordable and generally well thought of by the sport-touring community. I currently have 009's on my '97 Bandit 1200S, '98 SH, and '02 FZ-1. Just changed a 005 front and 009 rear on my '99 ZRX1100. My opinion? They were fine for the price I paid, lasted about as long as Pirelli Stradas, but less than Avon AV-45/46's. I will say they mounted easily and took minimal weight to balance. Can't address track use or rain performance as neither are on my slate. I've just read that Shinko has a new 011 model being released which may be even longer lived than the current 009 Ravens.

i am running the 003 in ultrasoft compound in front and rear...good performance so far.
i had the bridgestone bt002 in medium soft before and gave the shinko a shot as a dealer wanted me to give him some feedback and i got them for free, hehe
they do NOT perform the same like the bridgestone on the track, but for street use i definitely can recommend them when you are on a budget.

i have the all new bt003 racing in medium hard compound on order now, they should be a lenght better than the previous ones....hope i have them by the end of this week

a cheap tire may keep the rubber side down but it may slow a rider progression ( skill set ) due to poor feedback and handling.

It was pretty much new with good tread, and I was running novice pace. I wouldn't recommend them for that, but they did grip better than I expected they would. After 2 track days they were sliding a lot. :o

My only point was that for average street riding, they would handle curves fine unless you're a really aggressive rider. :)

Dam right cause yesterday I got my knee own and I almost low side.. I recover though I would be piss if it went down cause I just put it back together :) I will just keep it for street riding.. hahhaha

My Hawk had them on when I bought it, they were alright, wore quickly for me, now I run Avon Storm 2's, I like them.

just remember that the 005 is designed for sport-tour, not sport. I do not know for sure, but I suspect my experience on the track with the 005 was due to it getting hot and slipery as I became more aggressive on it. Lower pressures when hitting the dragon or the snake might be advisable. Those are two specific areas where you are using your tires a lot more than normal.

Hopefully this will come through, but here are some dates you might be interested in. Taking it to the track is safer and more fun than both of those two roads. :)

True, true, true. Most of my road riding is on my Connie these days. much better for travel. Besides...half the time my SH seems to be in track attire. :)

Man...sounds like you've put your body through the grinder! I'm a twin lover too. If you ever get a chance, try the buell 1125r. Better yet, the 1190 when Erik Buell gets things going. I did a track day demo on one....WAY fun!

it's overweight (well, compared to my 600 that I was riding at the time), and there is a flat spot at 3k RPMs. other than those quirks I noticed, it's an absolute torque monster, and with a 10500 redline, you can rev it up too.

I like that road to Saluda. :)
