Shinko Tires?
 

Anybody know anything about Shinko tires? I had a rear on my TL1000 and it was ok, but the guy changing my tire is trying to charge my 150 bucks which I think is kinda steap for a no name tire. I would think I could get some Michelin PPs for that price. He also has a used Michelin Pilot (not Pilot Power or Race) for 75. Which one should I get?

Yeah, that's way high unless mounting is free then it's only high.

A shinko rear came on a used bandit 1200S I bought in Florida but I used most of it up riding back to Texas. It did fine but I never used it in the twisties. I've "heard" that drag racers like 'em.

I just mounted a Shinko 005 (intermediate compound)front and a Shinko 009 Raven(sport touring) rear on my ZRX1100. They mounted more easily than equivalent Pirellis, Metzler, or Avons, and beaded quickly. Took minimal weight to balance too. First ride on them will be today so I'll have a ride impression soon. And at $156.00 delivered you can't beat the price.

You got both tires for $156?

Bought a 120/70ZR17 005 front and a 170/60ZR17 009 rear from RideNow.com. The delivered price would have been a couple of cents under $150.00 if I didn't live in a state where RideNow has an outlet-New Mexico- so I was charged about $6.50 in tax. And after riding about 50 scrub-in miles yesterday I have no complaints about this combo. Turn-in is similar to other sport-touring tires- predictable and deliberate. The front doesn't drop into a turn as readily as a Diablo or a Pilot Power. Between price, ease of mounting, minimal weight to balance I'm well satisfied. Reports on mileage will be about two years down the road as the ZRX only goes out every seventh day.

I took it to the mountains of WV this weekend and didn't have any problems, plus I hit my usual twisties without any issues. Only problem I had was when I scraped off the last 1/8th of unused rubber making a sharp turn onto another road. I still wish it was a PP but next I'll leave myself a little more time to order the right tire before the belts are showing. Oh, and my rear is a 005. I've got a Pilot Race up front which sticks wonderfully. Wheelies seem more controllable too and I was able to go around a slight bend on the interstate yesterday.
