sealant?

in the shop manual, when reinstalling the right side crankcase cover, it says to apply sealant to the mating surface.

question: what kind or type of sealant should be used?

any help would be appreciated...

i'm replacing the water pump seals...

Make sure you use a specialist gasket grade automotive sealant. These are resistant to fuel and oil etc. Readily available at your auto store.

I use one type or another on most all fasteners.. If you use the light strength, then what you get is corrosion resistance, and a anaerobic thread lock that resists loosening from vibration. Which will come out with hand tools and no chance of damage to fastener or item fastened. BUT ONLY USE THE LIGHT WEIGHT STRENGTH locker on the M6 fasteners in aluminum.

Med or high strength thread locker is used also, where appropriate.
.........

Or safety wire all fasteners that have fluid behind them

I've had great results with Hondabond HT, which I'm guessing is the same/similar to Yamabond. I used it on the oil pan amongst a bunch of other times. It was about 18.00 and actually ended up getting it from the Acura dealer after the bike dealership didnt have it nor did the local honda dealer.

Dude,

As per what I said in another recent thread, take great care in aligning the waterpump shaft when putting the cover back on. Compared to what can happen if you get this wrong, gasket sealant is the least of your worries. BTDT. :-)
