Are the rims clear coated?
 

Hi,
I need to repaint them, just found a color that matches... I mean, does Honda even coat them? Sorry for the weird question.

Pretty sure they are powdercoated.

Been awhile but I don't believe they are. When I bought my '98 brand new in '99 the coating was peeling off the rims already right out of the crate maybe from brake fluid from setting the bike up or whatever. Again it was a brand new bike they had just taken out of the crate so I had them order me a new rim. I've always found the paint on the rims to be pretty delicate. I know the swingarm for instance is anodized or clearcoated because I've polished a few but I don't believe the rims are. I have also polished the lips a couple times years ago and don't remember sanding through a clearcoat. Anyone who knows better is welcome to chime in.

Not clear coated, just powder coat. Aircraft stripper will remove it, if needed. Otherwise should be able to scuff and repaint. BUT.. be careful, next tire change it's probably chip/peel/scrap ordinary paint.

And oven cleaner- find a 18 X18 X 18 box.. Use a coffee can -put in the center box, balance the wheel on the open end of the coffee can... SPRAY Aircraft stipper or OVEN cleaner on the wheel.. COVER with a sheet of a solid board,.. 15 -30 minutes .. REMOVE -rinse with water.
