Removing Waterpump from cover?

I punched a hole in the right crankcase cover. Bought a new one through the classifieds but discovered that the water pump is pressed into the side cover.

I did a search and someone said using a socket and a hammer to bang it out, but didn't mention how to get it back in. VTR manual says to use a special tool and hydraulic press, which I do not have access to.

Anybody have any tips? Otherwise, I'll just have my current cover patched.

Thanks!

it's a bit tricky to get set in place,,,,, has to be pressed in just so far or it will not work. you do not need the special tool.. but you need to make something close, and yes i used my press to do the job. put it in a box send it to me...pay shipping both ways and the cost of the parts (new seal at least) i'll swap the pump over for you.

That's very generous of you :)

I'm going to chase down a lead on Monday and let you know via PM.

Thank you!

I used a 5" vice and various sockets to press the water pump together. You need to get new seal parts as there's no way to get the old ones out without effectively destroying them.
