Red Dot on Pirelli Tires - light or heavy?
Simple question. My first time with Pirellis (rosso corsas). They have 2 small red dots.
I'm used to one yellow dot on dunlops. I searched and have read conflicting things: is this the light or heavy spot of the rim. Dunlop puts in on their website. I can't find on the pirelli site. So does anyone know for sure which the red dots on pirellis are marking? Light , heavy or high spot on the tire. thanks |
Usually its heavy and opposites the valve stem, could be wrong though.

This from Motorcycle Tire/Tyre Tech 101 :
"Some PIRELLI tyres have a red dot on the sidewall. This indicates the lightest point, and should be positioned next to the valve." |
that is the only reference I could find also. thanks guys

...unless you have a static balancer, in which case I recommend balancing the wheel without the tire and then marking the heavy spot. Mark the inside of the rim with a sharpie and align the dot to that instead of the valve stem. 90% of the time the heaviest part is not at the valve stem.

thanks again. yes I use a balancer and do just as you suggest. and the heavy spot was about 70 degrees away from the valve stem.
