Read and Observe...Don't Do A Single Sided Exhaust

I'm keeping this short now. Just don't do it. Tuning was impossible. Especially with my custom huge K&N filter. My bike is back to stock intake, exhaust, and headers. i'm gonna install my factory jet kit, real k&n, and either jardine hi or Leo vince hi. I'm just so happy it actually runs well again. Resist the headache. Don't do it.

you cant tune it...? thats to bad, that pipe looks sick on there

Mine run very well and seems to breath a lot better, going to have it on the dyno next month, so I will let you know what the out come is.:)

although you fabbed yours, it looks beautiful. thats why it probably works and flows better. you lost torque tho. i imagine you gained 4hp

I thought a 2-to-1 on a v-twin was supposed to increase low-end torque at the expense of top end. More backpressure tends to equal more torque, no? Seems like degreeing the cams would be in order to optimize the gains.

Did you try the exhaust with the "regulation" intake set-up? I ask this because my tinkering with the intake leads me to believe that it upsets the vacuum carbs. I think you and I have discussed what I did before on another thread, so you may remember what I did, especially in regards to the larger filter which was my problem.

Perhaps with close to standard airflow to the carbs, your single exhaust will work ok. Just a thought.

I've had no problems with mine either, though I'm running quite rich up top and have yet to tune it. Kind of hard to tune when it's 3 fuggin degrees out! :-(

I had a single pipe for a while it seemed alright until I started racing it. It made a HUGE difference in power and response obviously more at the top. I estimate a 1/2 sec increase in the 1/4 mile times which is huge! If you want to run a single pipe without sacrificing power you must redesign the headers and not have any bottlenecks less than 2.25-2.5" diameter at the junction and back. The stock pipes are 2".

'Demon,

So adding the other cannister added back a bunch of power on top?
If you didn't redo the header, how did you do your "single side" mod?
Any pics of these modifications?

Thanks
