radiator reserve tank replacment
 

Hello everyone,

First time poster here! I have owned my hawk for about 4 months now and I am loving it. I already have done most of the important mods and upgrade thanks to all the helpful info here.

My question is how do I replace the radiator reserve tank? Mine has a crack in it and it is leaking. I have a new one and I just tried to remove the old one and it is a pain! The service manual says to remove it through the frame....this seems impossible. Any one have any insight on this?

Dude that is a really tough one. You've removed the screw on the drive side of the bike, right?

Yeah, I removed the bolt on the bracket on the break side of the bike. I assume you must twist the take to one side and slide it out. It just seems to not want to come out. Do I just have to force it?

Well I finally figured it out. That is one tight squeeze!

I was looking at my cracked tank yesterday and scratching my head.

Any tips for getting it out through the frame? I'm going to give it a go tonight, but at first glance I don't see how it is going to fit, and the manual doesn't say all that much about it.

They are a tight fit. you need to remove the airbox and carbs. The bottle is held in by a bolt on the right hand side of the frame and a plastic lug on the rear of the bottle that slips into a hole on the inside of the left side of the frame. Once the bolt is undone prise the rear of the bottle so the lug pops out and manipulate the bottle out.

It actually will pull through without removing the airbox and everything on top of it.

Tip for putting the new one back in - heat the plastic tank at 200F for about 2 minutes to soften it up just enough to make it malleable. The last thing you want is to crack the new tank while putting it in.

you can get it out without taking the carbs off? I recently rebuilt my whole cooling system just to get at the damned thing!

If you do take the carbs off while putting it back it be carful not to desync em. Cost like $50 for a shop to get them back in order.
