question for another 1999 owner

installed rear wheel after tire replacement and noticed a small gap between the left rear spacer flange and the bearing dust seal . Everything lines up and moves fine just looked a little odd to me . Just wanting someone to look at theirs and confirm , I'm guessing a 1/8 inch gap . Thanks

The spacers are different lengths and if you get them in wrong this is just what happens. Look at the online micro fiche (I use Ronnie's Mail Order.com) and make sure you are properly reassembled.

kd1659 07-20-2007 03:26 PM

The left spacer is entirely different so thats not what I'm talking about , front ones are different widths .

Was it just a tire replacement or did you replace the bearings and dust seals. I ran into a similar issue after replacing my rear tire, bearings, and seals on my 98. After assembled I noticed a gap like you are refering to on the left side where the spacer goes into the dust seal. Called the supplier and turns out they had put a wrong seal in the kit.

kd1659 07-20-2007 06:29 PM

dealer just swapped the tire for me and no other disassembly that I know . Let them look at it and they said it was alright . Do you not have any gap between flange and dust seal now ?

nuhawk 07-20-2007 07:13 PM

Last time I had my rear tire off I got the spacers fukt up and when I reversed them I realized that the spacer on the inside of the wheel had shifted as I got the spacers wrong. A little wobbling back and forth and the spaces went away and every thing was tight - no spaces. You can get to the internet microfiche can't you? If you have an internet connection and don't know how I can walk you through it.

I have a manual , just wanted someone to look at theirs to check this gap before I took it apart .

nuhawk 07-20-2007 08:30 PM

OK - I'll go look.

Thanks, waiting to hear .

Hawk9807 07-21-2007 05:37 AM

I have no gap in between the spacer and inside edge of the dust seal. But they sent me the correct seal and my problem was solved.:)

kd1659 07-21-2007 05:40 AM

Thanks, we are talking about the flange part of the spacer that goes against the inside of the swingarm , correct ? Thanks Also did your wheel line up and roll ok with the wrong seal ?? Thanks

Hawk9807 07-21-2007 05:57 AM

Yes, we are indeed talking about the same area, and yes it lined up correctly when assembled. The spacer was sitting up against the inner race for the bearing and the inside of the swing arm. On the stand there was no wobble, I didn't put it back on the road until I had the correct seal though.

kd1659 07-21-2007 06:06 AM

I'm really puzzled , I'm kinda thinking the guy put the bearings in wrong or put some new parts that were wrong in after mounting then tire . I'm gonna ride it back over there and have them check it again . Thanks

Probably be the best thing to do. Good Luck and keep it rubber side down.

I got to the shop and took some pictures of mine. Got back to the office and they looked like shit and I had the resolution messed up for transferring to the forum and then I just ran out of gas for the day. Glad you got it worked out.

kd1659 07-21-2007 06:43 AM

Thanks, do you remember any gap ? I'm not sure its worked out since I can't find a bike to look at . I'm gonna take some pics myself and see if folks can help .

kd1659 07-21-2007 07:04 AM

After you hit the reply button you can type your reply. Then scroll down to "manage attachments" Choose to browse for the image. Navigate to where the picture is stored, highlight it, choose open. Then choose "upload."

This is where is can get tricky. The file size can be only approx 90Kb in size and if it's bigger the server will not be able to upload it. If this is the case you have a couple choices. Probably the least painful is to sign up at Photobucket.com (free) and then cut/copy/paste the link into your response. The other way is to post to the forum gallery and then tell everybody what your album name is so they can go there to look at it. The other method is to use you picture manager and reduce the size of the photo to below the 90Kb size and post in your message. Then it will appear like this in the body of your message.

Thanks I'll try

OK, guys! These are the pics that kd sent to me and I resized them so you could see them. He (smarter than me) put a little red grease in the space that he's talking about. My bike has the same space.

Hawk9807 07-21-2007 09:53 AM

I misunderstood, I thought he had a gap around the spacer and the inner lip of the seal. I also have the gap you are refering to on my 98. Great idea with the red grease. Really made it jump out.

entirely normal, otherwise spacer would rub and be worn out in no time.

kd1659 07-21-2007 02:34 PM

Thanks for the help fellas, now I can continue scuffing in my new tires !
