wiring harness question

I toasted my regulator rectifier a week and a half ago and in the process melted the wiring harness conector to it. What would be the best way for me to go? I can get a new harness, ($130 is the best price I've seen so far), and cut the connector off and splice it into my existing harness or I can get the connector for $23 shipped and try to match up the wiring so I can splice it in to the existing harness. I'm not very experienced so I'm looking for any advice here that will be helpful. Should I spend the $$ and make sure I have the right wiring or is it just as easy to spend a few hours and do it myself??? Thanks in advance for the help all!!!

You can buy the stock harness from Eastern Beaver for under $20 or if you didn't buy a new r/r yet get the other connectors and upgrade to the R1 mosfet r/r, which is what most here will recommend.
