ordering and changing air filter

I need to order and change my air filter. If I do this myself, what else do I need to order to complete the job? I think just the air filter, but wanted to know if there were any other filters that need to be done at the same time.
I am going with the stock filter, so I don't have to make any other adjustments.

Oh, and what is the part number for the stock air filter?

$41 to $45 that is insane....didn't someone make one out of a cheap filter bought for a car???

Hawkrider 04-01-2007 08:47 AM

I remember someone cutting the stock paper out and using Unifilter foam. Never been a fan of Unifilter though.

$45 is a lot of money. But honestly how often do you have to change the filter. I spray all my paper filters with 55-60 PSI air every few thousand miles and it lasts for a long time.

Superbling did one...Ask him, or do a search....

I agree, I would just blow mine out...but hell you gotta pull the tank to get to the damn thing...or do you???

Nope! Just loosen the two front tank bolts, and swivel it up on the rear hinge. Get a bungee cord or some rope and tie it to something overhead, like your garage door, then you're free to work underneath just fine. You can also access the rear PAIR valve, and spark plug fairly easily this way.

And as far as using foam in place of the paper...I have *never* and WILL never trust foam over a carburetor!

Anybody remember the Edelbrock "triangles of death"? Theyre cheap shiny chrome, foam filters for older carbed cars...well when they backfire out the carb, it burns and melts the foam and sends it falling into the carburetor.

I ran unifilters on my race car but it was only drag racing quarter miles at a time and no street driving. I wouldnt trust them riding my bike the way I do but thats just me.

Go stock if everything else is stock-less hassles...

Sometimes you can find a K&N slightly used for about that price. That is where I got mine and those things last forever.

Yeah, but then you gotta go through the trouble of making sure it don't screw up performance, by having to adjust other crap...not that it's a bad thing all together...just time consuming...

I never had a problem with it, but then again maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones

Well maybe you are!! That's cool, now if I lived in a real dusty area, I would get one for sure, but out here it is clean and clear, cept for the pollen....
