Oil on kickstand
 

Okay, after finally getting my bike going I have a concern. It seems the kickstand has developed oil dripping down it. I was hoping that it was just from under tightening the drain bolt after the last oil change, but after cleaning it up and tightening everything it returned. Now I'm thinking it's seaping from the front sprocket shaft, but haven't had the opportunity to investigate.

Has anyone else seen this problem or have any ideas?

Nah, seems too thin. Looks like engine oil. And yeah I need to investigate. I'm just away from the bike and worrying about it right now. Maybe if it warms up again this weekend I can look a little harder.

Countershaft seal?

It could be clutch fluid from the line,bolt or inside the the cylinder that's on the sprocket cover.
There is a little hole on the very bottom of the cover,that's where it would come out from if there is anything leaking in that area,amongst other spots in that area.
With dirt and grime,it can seem like motor oil.

If you have manual CCTs, the rear one sometimes leaks and can easily travel across the motor and down the kickstand.

I'm going to +1 chain lube. I get the same exact thing. Actually freaked me out at one point too. Then, DOH! How about a good pic?

LOL :evillaugh: I got $500 off my bike when I bought it, as I pointed out there was an oil leak from the countershaft sprocket... guy said no problem and asked me what it would cost.. i guessed at 1-5 labor and parts, about $250. He said deal 500 for your trouble.

Got it home, pulled the cover, cleaned a ton of chain lube and road grime, seal was fine.. It was just chain lube leaking down off the cover and off the lick stand.

This model is not know for countershaft seal leaks, unless damaged

That's good to hear. I'll have to try to pull it apart this week end and see. I guess I'll clean it all up and wait to see if it's a reoccuring problem.

He's right about the rear manual cct too. Falls right on the exhaust pipe and smokes like crap when you first fire it up.

That's exactly what happened when I installed manual CCT's. The rear CCT would collect hot oil and leak past the threads, eventually traveling down the kickstand to the floor. I fixed the leak by loosening the jam nut on the rear CCT, degreasing the threads on the bolt, wrapping teflon tape around the threads, then retightening the jam nut. Put some extra wraps where the bolt goes into the body of the CCT housing. The jam nut will compress the teflon tape and create an effective seal.
