Not getting Fuel from the tank.
 

Hey guys,

I have a 98 SH and recently I blew my motor so I picked up a new one and dropped it in. I figured i would take advantage of the down time and give it the pain job it was in desperate need of.

My question is this: Is there a vent on the top of the tank i may have sealed while painting it? because we are getting it to run fine without the tank on the bike but once i hook everything up it just refuses to stay running.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Unblock the hole with a bit of wire (and blow through with air) that's just on the inside of fuel cap where you shove the nozzle as it sounds like you're getting vacuum lock.

Plus check the internal fuel filter inside the tank on the fuel tap.

But before all that make sure you have the vacuum hose connected correctly to the BACK of the fuel tap. and NOT the bottom.

Just in case - have you fitted inline fuel filters to the fuel hoses?

No extra filters the fuel lines are completely stock and I am certain I have them connected correctly me and a tech here looked at the service manual to be sure.

Pushing the wire through that hole... will that push what ever is blocking it into my tank therefore into my gas? so in theory I should do this then empty my tank, then put fresh gas in and try and get it running? I will be trying this in a little bit after I clock out.

Shouldn't do as the path of that hole leads to the fuel overflow drain/breather spiggot that's comes out at the bottom of the tank and connects to a drain hose that runs to the outlet nr. the the bellypan at the front.

When it was resprayed was the fuel cap area masked off?

3 sets of eyes have double checked as my friend's pride was on the line lol. but yea those lines are going to have to come off for me to get to that inner tank filter any way so i will triple check them I guess. And yes the hole to fill the tank was masked off but that area where that drain is was not :banghead: thats what i get for being cheap. the paint came out looking good but obviously i should have looked into what needed to be masked off.

This should remedy the problem...

wow I'm an idiot. thanks for all the help dude. bike runs great now. just put the vacuum line on the wrong port for the fuel petcock.
