No power
My bike started just fine yesterday, but 2 mi. from home it died without warning. Checked the 30 amp fuse under the left rear cover and it was blown. Tried the spare and it blew instantly. After I got the bike home I checked the battery out and it is fine. When I turn the key on I have nothing at all. I have checked all the main heavy cables and none of them have bare spots. Anyone have this happen before?

Exact same thing happened. Regulator/rectifier failure. I think just about everyone on this forum has had one fail.

See I had the same problem but my bike was just died and had no power and I mean I had someone test it and I was 12V and then 13+V and still now I am waiting to see what happens

replace the fuse, unplug the R/R and try & start it. the battery won't be charging so don't run it down to far.
if all seems ok measure the stator (~ .5 ohms wire to wire ) and check stator wires to ground. if that is OK, good bet it's your R/R. if it still blows then you need a good ohm meter & start checking the wiring harness. :( tim |
Well what, in my case I have a brand new battery brand new RR yet my battery died
|
What wires should I be checking ? I mean when I took off the battery I got 12V with the key off and then over 13V with it running

It will charge at i higher rate when its running ,they should be at about 13/13and a half volts when running to put back the charge that bike uses when it's runing lights ect.
If it's popped the fuse then it's over chargeing,it sounds like the regulator/rectifier has failed. It does the same job as the regulator pack on the altinator on your car. |
