New chain and sprockets, new noise
Another "please diagnose this noise over the internet" question.
The bike has had an on-throttle rattle in 6th gear since I bought it 3.5 years ago. I had the sprockets and chain replaced by a shop I trust a couple weeks ago. I still have the noise, and I also have what sounds like a gear whine. It's also on-throttle only, but appears to increase in frequency as I upshift, so it's at its highest pitch in 6th. It's a DID, I believe a 520, don't have the invoice handy. It's my first new chain - is this normal? Break-in needed? Should I bring it back to the shop? Thanks for any pointers. |
Well it is really hard to tell but a few things.....
What is the rear sprocket made out of? And is it a different type of sprocket or material than the one you replaced? Also the chain could be too tight, how much free play does the chain have? |
are the rubber/plastic chain guides on the swingarm ok? Also be sure of the clearance of the chain on the exhaust pipe just under the front.
