Needle Retainer Tabs

When I opened up my carbs last night to do my jet kit it looks like someone has already tried it, but reverted back to stock. The holes were drilled into the slide is why I am guessing this. I did the rest of the mod to see what played out. Bike is unhappier now, and unfortunately I never had a good baseline. It Hesitates between 3k-6k in every gear but first(twist the throttle and nothing happens), Micron pipes, stock air filter.

Couple questions.

Will an extra lift hole in each slide cause problems or should I seal them? Dynojet says drill them, but see question two below before answering this.

One of the tabs on the needle retainer has a matching hole for the dynojet hole and the same one in the back was snapped off in the back.

Will just sealing over the holes fix this issue? Or Am i Looking at an entirely new needle retainer to try my jet kit mod? Does it matter that these are broken?

Third and final question. How many washers shimmed the stock needles off of the factory floor. There were 3 washers shimming each front and back.

I have looked at your site and found many ways to tune a stock bike with stock needles, but after opening this up I don't know what I am dealing with anymore. If anyone knows for a fact the 2001 superhawk carb setup fits my 1998 superhawk I will end up buying a full carb setup off ebay today.

Hopefully this needle retainer thing is slightly out of the norm and will give you superhawk veterans something to ponder that isn't redundant...

Thanks for Looking,
Chris

Carbs are the same from 98-05. But fixing yours will be cheaper than buying a new pair that may need work anyways.

The only difference in the carbs (at least in the US) would be Ca and non Ca, other than that they are all the same.

Past that I am just confused by your post..... You say "to do your jet kit" but never say what kit or what you are actually trying to do.

If you are removing a DynoJet kit, then yes you can seal the holes up. You would also need to replace the DynoJet slide springs.

The valve plates (the plastic bits that hold the needles in) could be reused but are only $12 each so i would replace them Honda, ATV Parts, Scooter Parts, Motorcycle Parts,CRF,CR,MX Parts, Goldwing parts

As for the rest, it is pretty well covered in the carb set up thread in the Tech section.

I was attempting to put a dynojet kit in the bike. 8541, when you say that they could be reused are you implying the structural integrity of the plastic pieces do not affect the slide or the air coming through the lift holes in front of the tabs?

This is my first rodeo with carbs and I am trying to absorb as much as possible. I still do not understand the purpose behind many of the instructions the tech section.

In my head I have still yet to establish:
What the lift holes do in simple person speak.
How to get the fuel mixture right.
What the needle actually does.

Not looking for someone to baby me, but thats what I am dealing with, and thats what I am working on.

If you read the Carb Setup in the knowledge section most of your questions will be answered.

Based on this video, I could snap the other 3 tabs off each of the retainer plastic and it wouldn't make a difference. Thanks.

I also never managed to discover the knowledge base, just endless searching. Thanks for that pointer HRCA.

Well they can change the flow slightly and depends on how picky you are on how things work.

With that I will not say too much more as my opinion of DynoJet kits for this bike are pretty well known by now. ;)
