My Brown Discharge for you 05-21-11
Last week I purchased a vaccuum brake bleeder and cleared my brake fluid. It was gross and had a red ting. front and back are running clear now so this week I decided to clear my clutch.
I was shocked at what I found Before we start I want to show you this fantastic souffle I made in my toaster oven with bacon flavored spam and an extra sharp cheddar cheese center. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_C...514_134433.jpg THis is the view of my clutch fluid from above https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_C...521_134406.jpg Another view https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_C...521_134413.jpg This is the fluid after it had been flushed. There is actually good fluid mixed in here too and its still this nasty. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_C...521_152634.jpg |
Way overdue for a change. Hope you did all three reservoirs and systems.
|
Mmmm looks like the perfect gravy for your souffle
|
Yah I got all three. I did the other two last week and confirmed no air bubbles today.
I am going to do the 954 master cylinder swap soon I will record that how to. 02-13-11 Geek’s first north run. « Just a Geek On a Bike |
That's why it should be changed every 2 years, even if it looks clean.
A Spam souffle? Are you part Hawaiian? :spam: |
No but spam is certainly yummy. I know they are crazy about it out there.
|
I thought the spam souffle was the reason for your brown discharge!!!:p
|
Imagine, that a biscuit is on a motorcycle forum. Looked yummy tho! Hahaha!

So something else now. I had a pretty bad problem since I got the bike where I would slip from 2nd into neutral whenever I approached 60 mph. I could never make it over 60 mph. now that I have changed this I am able to make it to 75 mph without anyhting happening. Thing is that when the bike is cold it does still happen. It also happened once (a total of twice now since the fuild change) when I hung out at 50 then shot off really fast. so it would appear that the problems might have been related. Ia m thinking mabe my clutch discs or springs may be worn down from the abuse? My engine oil is topped off castrol GTX 20/50 any opinions?

Ok switched to rotella T awhile back. Do not use car oil in the bike.
|
you didnt like the rotella T at all.
i almost bought it a couple of days ago. what was the end result and the problems you were having. |
No I love the rotella T. At least as much as any man can love oil. The castrol is not bike oil it is for cars. Rotella is actually motorcycle oil and carries a JASO certification.
|
I've used car oil for the last 3 months with no problems whatsoever... if there's any noticeable difference it has better clutch engagement (for me anyway).
The key here is to get the oil without added lubricants. If it says energy conserving in the stamp on the container, lubricants were added that make your clutch not function properly: http://www.aa1car.com/library/API_donut.gif |

but it has characteristics of motorcycle oil made for wet clutch systems. do they have the rotella T in synthetic. |
Rotella is primarily marketed for diesel trucks. That said certain grades specifically carry JASO MA certification which is a Japanese cert specific to japanese bikes with wet clutches. Not all rotella has this cert so it is critical to check the label! I once took home the wrong bottle. The best part is that it is only 12$ a gallon which is very hard to beat.
I did notice a difference. I was using the castrol GTX oil and since I already have an issue with second gear I noticed it was much worse with the GTX. With the rotella it is back to the way it was when I was paying shops to change my oil. As in it does slip, but only sometimes.
