My 1st Hawk questions
Picked up a nice 99 and had a questions or 2. Where should the temp gauge run ? Are there any recalls or things to watch out for on these bikes ? (mines got 430 mi.) Help appreciated .

my temp gauge runs pretty much straight up. if i sit in traffic on a hot day it will sometimes start to wander to the right.

My temp gauge will hit 219 degrees before the fan goes on. Then it cools back down to 210. That's only in very hot conditions and I'm sitting in traffic.

A '99 with 430 miles??? Wow! That's hardly enough to keep the gas fresh. Does it run ok? Usually these bikes have problems with the carbs if they sit too long. Best of luck and welcome!

Welcome to the forum... one thing to watch is the automatic cam chain tentioners or CCTs - they have been known to fail and cause serious valve damage. They usually get noisy before they go but it could be just seconds before... Some guys say to replace them with the manual versions to be safe... do a search for more info.

On a warm day (80F and higher), on the open road, just below the straight up position, in traffice just straigth up or a little beyond at which point the fan is triggered. Below 75, on the road it runs noticeably below that point, but stopped it can quickly go right to straight up again.

No recalls. As mentioned, watch/listen for CCTs. Suspension upgrades transform the bike. They should be your first mod. That, and a Sargent seat.
