Lower rad hose diameter?
 

Does anyone know the inner diameter of the lower hose (linking the two rads)?

I am fairly certain it is 1".

P.S. Once I know for sure I will elaborate on the reason for the question.....

Because of my waterpump saga I know for certain the hose from the outlet of the right radiator to the waterpump inlet is 1". I never had the lower hose between the two radiators off, but visually it looks to be the same.
As for the reason... I am waiting to hear!

was thinking of splicing one of these into the lower hose at rebuild time to help deal wit the additional heat the hopped-up engine will generate (am already running a larger oil cooler and there aren't all that many other options, reasonably priced ones anyhow)....

That really does look like a good alternative to mounting the third rad. Lets us know how it works..... and just what I needed something else to add to the OCMD list.......lol ;)

Well, I haven't had any problems as of yet, and I doubt it's really needed, but it seems like it should fit... So yeah, added to the list...

I'm thinking you might want two, one for lower and upper hose. My concern is that the flow through each radiator is balanced. If you look at the cooling system flow diagram in the shop manual you will see what I mean. I'm thinking that this insert will cause slightly more resistance to flow. If it is only placed in the bottom hose then possibly less cooland will flow through the left radiator. Having two inserts would balance this resistance.
The effect might be so small that it does not impact the flows. I don't know. just something to keep in mind.

I had a quick look at the hoses yesterday night (with dismal garage lighting) and my main concern with fitting two units relates to clearance, the triple clamps coming relatively close to the upper hose. This will obviously require closer inspection.

BTW, I may need a shipping intermediary again as these fine folks want $40 to ship one to me in Montreal..... the postage robbery never ends.....

I don`t have any real problems at the moment, but bumping up the compression ratio by 2 points (courtesy of JE pistons) may alter the existing equilibrium somewhat....

I don't know if you can still get them, but I am really happy with the Durbahn airscoops I put on my RC51. It runs at 180 degrees F, on a 95 degree day. With the stock configuration, it was over 200 degrees. Mine doesn't have fans, so the cooling flow is a it less restricted, but even with a fan, for street use, it should help to pressurize the inside of the rads. Rick got some and he thinks they're great.

I looked at those but they`re quite pricey. That doesn`t mean I won`t get them later (have backtracked on such items in the past, lol), but I am always looking for alternative (read: cheaper, lol) ways to do things and may just have to give this a go first.

AS I don't plan on installing anything this shiny on my bike, I will likely get it treated with a black heat dispersant coating before instlaling it, fixing the colour issue and heopfully making it even more efficient at cooling the engine. I will be mounting into the lower rad hose (measured it and it fits perfectly, will squeeze it towards the right side so it clears the heat coming from the header).

Any progress ?
