Loss of power

Hello I bought a vtr100f about a year ago. When i got it it was vary snappy a slight twist of the throttle would pull the front wheel up but now it will bairly come up in 1st and only a couple of inches. Over time it felt like its getting worse. It still starts up and runs ok. You might not notice it even if you have never ridden a superhawk before. I wanna wheelie again please help.

When was the last time you changed the air filter?

been maybe 5 or 6000 but it looks clean

Something must have changed! I would think back over the time you have owned it to see if there is anything you can connect to your problems. It could be something as simple as leaving the bike sit for a month or two and now the carbs are partially clogged. With enough information I'm sure the great guys on this forum will be able to help steer you in the right direction.

I did switch from 20w50 syn to 10w50, but still ran the same after. I ride every day. If the valve clearences were a couple thousands out of spec could that cause this?

Valves out of adjustment will cause a loss of power but probably not to the degree you are talking about. FWIW, 10w50 is pretty heavy. The suggested weight is 10w40 summer and 10w30 in colder weather. Again, this is probably not the source of your issues.

Does it use more gas now than then? Does it feel sluggish? If you open the throttle at idle in 2d now does it take longer to reach redline than it used to?

Bradley Eckelbarger 08-30-2012 08:52 PM

yes all of that but like i said if your not firmiliar with the bike you may not even notice.

also for the oil i live in arizona where it gets 115 in summer does that matter?

That's a good question, it's been 100+ here in Riverside County CA so my SH is in the garage, it's too F****G hot to ride, so I tore it down to make some upgrades and it's too damn hot to work in the garage!!
