Li Ion Battery resetting clock on cold starts
 
Hi,
Anyone else having this issue? I notice that on colder starts (requiring 2 tries) that the voltage must drop enough to 00:00 my clock.

Any tips regarding starting technique? (I hit the starter while pulling the choke out as starting with the choke all the way out seems to give me only two revolutions before click click clicking)

Or does anyone have an easy way to unplug the digital clock?

What capacity on the battery? How long between starts, what temperature? With nothing to go on, it's simply a guessing game...

Hey Tweety,
It's a Full Spectrum Pulse P2 battery
4.6 AH capacity with a 240 Amp discharge
Works almost every time. In fact it's never failed to start the bike. Just occasionally (on cold mornings) gets the engine to crank for only one or two revolutions before running out of juice. At this point I let go of the starter button and turn the ignition to off. Then (after :30 seconds or so), I try again and this time the bike starts.

i think the only solution is to get an older hawk that doesnt have a clock ;)

I believe, with this type of battery you do need to do a short crank in cold weather to get the battery to warm up on discharge, on the second crank it should be back to full capacity, there for what you been saying is actually normal, this does not mean the battery is weaker.
You need to note that if your bike is 2000 model or later you need to consider a disconnect for the battery if it seats longer then a week or so regardless if it's summer or winter, the instrument panel is slowly draining the battery when the bike is off.
