Lean Problem?

I read a topic a while ago that was about the 3k "burp" and tried the choke trick to determine if the bike was running lean and when I pulled the choke between 2k and 3k RPM the bike didn't miss a beat. Well here is the scoop. Yesterday I finally got time to work out in the garage and get my bike apart enough to look at the spark plugs and determine which of the two cyl. might be running lean. Well much to my dismay there is almost no difference in color between the plugs, in fact the only difference is probably that the rear cyl. plug had a little more white haze than the front. The color of the plugs has a slight brown tint to it but other than that the ceramic is mostly white still. Could both cyl.s be running lean? Or is there something that I am missing.

Ideally you need to do a plug "chop" with new plugs. Also, if the carbs are OK everywhere else, that would help mask the condition.

Do a search, here and on the net, for shimming the needles. It's a cheap ($2) but labor intensive (pull the carbs) fix.

what is a plug "chop"?

cutting off the ignition abruptly, instead of pulling over, idling, and cutting off the motor. You need to rev it where it's having diffuculty for a bit, then cut the ignition off and coast to a stop where you can tear into it.
