Just my luck! New tire issue
 

Recently put a new Diablo rear on my bike. Got about 600 miles on it and picked up a d*** brad nail. Is there a safe way to patch it or do I need to buy another new tire?

Yes... usually the tire shop will offer you a nail protection warranty when you purchase. But if not... just bring it to a tire shop to have it PATCHED. Not plugged!

A patch will bring it back to what it should be and you will have no worries. You can ride it. Track it. Stunt it. Pose with it.

If you to the plug there is the chance that the plug will fail and start to leak again.

i would rather drop another $150 on a new tire that you know is safe. i would patch it and find the closest burnout comp and give it all shes got!!

put a tube in it. it's only about $25 bucks, and will be safe for the life of the tire.

I have run the standard "rope" type plug many times and have never had a problem.

Now you would never run one in a front tire but for the rear, just plug it and keep an eye on the pressure and run it. ;)

Depends where on the profile it punctured. If towards the edge then it can damage the reinforcing material. I've had plug repair done on a hole just off centre without any problems which was done at the tire shop where I'd originally bought it. Take the wheel off and see what can be done at your local tire shop.

Best type of patches have a small plug in the center of them as well but yea if it's in the side it can damage the cords in the sidewall, in the center is all good

It's just to the right of center looking at the tire from the rear. Thanks for all the input. Gonna pull it and take to the shop for their recommendation. Found a new one online for $117. May go that route

I've rope plugged several times, no problems. Your dealer will only recommend replacement. Lowers his liability.

Same issue here. The last set of tires on my hawk picked up a large nail after about three days of putting them on! only had 150 miles on them. Plugged the hole with the rope type plug, did two tracks days on it, no problems. This was on a rear tire, just to to the left of center.
Never plugged a front tire, but plugged plenty of rears, pretty common to get most of your flats on the rear.
Do whatever you feel safe with.
