jetting baseline
 

I'm planning on installing a factoy jet kit and k&n filter on my 2001 Hawk in a couple of weeks. I'm running Staintune highmount pipes and I live in South Jersey at sea level. I've jetted the s&s on my harley and the holley on my challenger, but never a Superhawk. It doesn't look to hard but it looks like i'll have to do it a couple of times to get things right. I was planning on using 180fr/182rr main jets, stock pilot jets and 2.5 turns for the fuel screws. Does this sound like a good base line to start with? I'm not tryinng to get the best tune possibly I just want to get a little more out of the bike, not that I'm unhappy with it now.

That's probably a little rich on the pilot screws and lean on the mains if you're running WITHOUT baffles. Try 2.0 to 2.25 turns on the pilots and 185/182 on the mains. With baffles the mains are about right. Try setting the needles with the clips on the second from bottom slot. This should get you really close.

What are the stock main sizes? Is the front or rear main jet bigger? With 2-strokes the hotter cyclinder (rear) gets the bigger main. Does this apply to 4-bangers as well? Did you bean 185f / 182r above?

You are correct about the rear cylinder getting the bigger main.

Yes, rear is richer because it runs hotter. Richer is cooler, thus the larger main jet. Sorry about the confusion.
