How to remove oil filter?
 

The manual says to remove oil filter with a wrench. There is no bolt on my oil filter. How do I remove it? My new filter has a bolt...

:eek::shock: I just can't.. just can't..............

Remove the lower chin fairing, then "Lefty Loose", Righty Tighty"...
Most of the time, just remove it with your hands....:):)

Oil Filter Wrench

So I gotta buy a cover? Does auto zone / advanced auto parts have one?

I have the fairing removed. It doesn't seem to budge...

If it won't come off by hand, the above shown tool is the best way. I'm cheap, so I just used a large pair of channel locks or a pipe wrench. Be mindful not to put up or down force on the filter, you don't want to mess up the threads. After it's off check the threads and if all looks good, put some oil on the new filters seal and put it on HAND TIGHT. Do not use the nut to tighten it.

If you don't have a filter remover, you can hammer a screwdriver or similar punch into the side of it and that will give you enough leverage to unscrew it. Once you start hammering you're committed, though!

And don't screw the new one on as hard as the PO.

So I don't torque the filter at all? I don't have a torque wrench.

Your making this way too hard, but are asking questions before doing something dumb , so you get credit for that..:lol:

It most times will come off by hand, if not you use a tool.. buy one, make one, use a screwdriver like suggested.

It goes on hand tight, turn till the lightly oiled gasket makes contact, turn 3/4 turn.. Fill with oil, go ride.

Definitely not. Do not use the nut on the end to tighten it. That's just there for removing it.

best bet is to watch a vidoe! I don't agree with all of it but it's not wrong to do it this way.

Make sure you coat the rubber ring on the new one with clean motor oil. Spin it on til tight, then maybe another 1/4 turn to seat it (so hand tight).

I have had to drive a screwdriver into them alot to get them free. With the oil drained, how can you get to a store to buy a filter wrench?

Alright i just shoved a screw driver in it and turned it. Still was really hard... Used oil on the ring and grooves etc. Put new oil in it. Thanks guys.
