How far after the RLOD?
 

I was really curious if anyone knows the aproximate mileage after the RLOD comes on??

Well, it's going to depend of two things:

1) YOUR mileage
2) The bike's reserve indicator assembly in the tank

Personally, I usually hit the RLOD in the mid-90's to 105 region. I once ran out at 122 while forgetting to go into conserve mode. FYI, the motor just died, no slow stumble.

My reserve light usually comes on just after 100 miles. Max miles I ever got out of a tank was 142.4, and I had been heavy on the throttle for 100 of those miles.l

When I ran out of gas, the RPMs just fell and shut her down.

Well...my RLOD usually comes on around 120-125 miles (indicated) and I have ridden another 20 without running out. Granted, I was then 'babying' it... short shifting, tucking, coasting, but I made it to the gas station and it was still running!

(Please, folks...don't try this at home.)

with, as i have read in this forum, "spirited" riding, my hawk ususally sees 75-90 miles before my "this bike will self shut off in 3 miles" light comes on. best mileage yet, 130 and i didnt run out, worse mileage 88 and i ran out 3 miles from gas station. i put new plugs in yesterday and plan to ride today, maybe i can get some mileage out of her!

My gas light come4s on around 60 to 70 miles, needless to say it's messed up. I gas up and I'm lucky to get a few gallons in so my gas light is only 1/2 way into the tank I guess.

Well my low fuel light comes on at about 100 miles most of the time...but if ride hard and keep the speeds up in the three digits it will come on around the 60 mile mark...the most I have run on one tank was 145 miles and did not run out of fuel.

I can usually get 90 to 100 miles on a tank of gas before the RLOD and have pushed it to 120 before I was able to fill it up. I agree with the coment that you may need to baby it to get to a gas station if necessary.

For you metric fans I've only put 3 tanks thru as I've only had the bike 3 weeks and weather has been reeel bad but I've gotten as high as 200km with fairly gentle riding and that's riding into the light a bit. Each time it took 13 litres to fill so I had 3 left.

:( Mine shines around 95 to 100 ran out at 122 :evil: and like the others died with no warning. Now as soon as it goes on I stop at the first gas station I see! The soonest it lit was 80 after a good beating. I'll be at JenningsGp June 11-12 will see how long it last there after some good thrashing!! :twisted:

The reserve blinky light on mine comes on at 139 miles pretty religeously, plus or minus 2 miles, no matter if I use 91 or 87 octane. Filling back up is always 3.1 gallons.

One time, however, I was racing an F4i and we were between 100 and 145 mph for about 20 miles or so in some long sweeps and I only got to 110 miles. My rpms were in the 5500 to 7500 range I think, upon glance in 6th.

Generally, I find enough kickass torque so I usually shift from 3500 to 4000 rpms pretty consistantly.

I think this SHawk's gas milage is violently affected by rpms.

Mine comes on at about 100 miles ('98) and my reserve capacity (on Saturday) was 16.2 miles.

Luckily, though, you can still roll after the engine shuts off. On Saturday, I rolled through the last quarter of an uphill off ramp, down a long gentle hill, through an incredibly cooperative left turn light, around a corner, into a gas station and up to a pump, a distance of over 3/10 of a mile.

And thus, a nice day turned crappy, turned nice again.
