Hot starter

When I go to start my bike it cranks over fine then slowly dies before it fires up. It has a new battery. Connections at soliniod are clean as are the battery and ground. The starter gets REAL warm. Starter hosed? R/R?

Any help?

Thanks.

Starter doesn't sound the happiest... it shouldn't get real warm unless you have to crank the bike a for an extended period of time (like over 30 seconds) to get it to start.

I took the starter off and connected it direct to the battery.....spun it up for a good 20 seconds....cool to the touch. It spins freely, no bearing or brush grabbing. Then reinstalled it and directly connected it to the battery and the battery worn down quickly. Didn't have enough juice to check the temp.

Did I get a bad "new" battery? Would a bad battery cause strain/heat? Could mice fly if they had wings and feathers?

Bad ground would be my first thought but working in parts for so many years I would not rule out that battery. You never know.

I just had a 5 month old battery die on me. Did yours happen to be a Parts Unlimited battery? Stock replacement? Mine was. I thought it was the starter too. I was getting good voltage but there wasn't the amperage to start the bike. Have the battery tested. If your starter is shot I have another one for you for $50.

Going to test the battery....was thinking the same or a poor ground somewhere. I'll keep you I mind for the starter Greg. Thanks.

Battery had a dead cell. Problem solved.
