Hitch carrier

Does anyone on here use a hitch carrier to carry their hawk? I am getting into dirt biking since my 5yr old son has a dirtbike now & want to use a hitch carrier for the dirt bike but figure I should get one that can hold the VTR too.

I am debating between 500 or 600lb capacity.

Anyone do this?

The one that lifts both wheels off the ground perpendicular to the vehicle or the one that lifts just the front wheel in parallel? I've almost bought the latter several times to try it out for short trips when I buy or sell a bike but have never pulled the trigger.

I just ordered this kind. I am not a fan of dragging the back wheel along for many highway miles. It spins the countershaft without oil pressure and that just doesn't seem kosher to me.

Agreed.

Several of my racing buddies tried this type of carrier. Lot's of weight on the hitch, and a bitch to load by yourself, especially if you're an "ahem" mature individual.

The weight carrying tounge weight rating on my Tahoe reciever is 600lbs. If I'm not mistaken, that's a common rating for a reciever on a 1/2 ton vehicle.

I've always been more concerned about the twisting forces something like this could generate. I'd be more concerned if the carrier were robust enough to take it more so than the reciever.

So yeah I agree with all the concerns but I've seen 400lb carriers carry big bikes for miles over the course of years. They all looked like they wouldn't make it a block but were used for seasons.

I was more wondering if anyone had experience with one. I want to mostly use it for a small dirtbike but want the option for the hawk.
