HID Lighting
 

Has anyone custom fit an HID bulb into their SH ? I've just created a modified H4 base to hold a D2S bulb powered by a ballast (hella/sylvania etc.) and was wondering what the effect of a relay would yield. The light looks a little yellow (up close against a wall ) which might be a typical hot spot for the halogen housing/hid combo compared to normal projector housings, or it may be slightly under powered. Let me know if there is any information or suggestions.

I just thought of something else. It may just be the light bulb itself as the output of hids turn yellowish when they get older. I'll try a few things and report my findings.

Wow...I never considered doing such an involved HID upgrade. For me, I went out and bought an HID kit from McCulloch's and popped it in.

I haven't had any issues with glare, and the beam pattern is just the same as stock. The HID upgrade gives much better contrast/brightness.

Yeah it's a little time consuming, but I had the bulb and ballast as a spare for my car so I thought I'd throw it in. Does your kit use a relay ? Thanks for the info :)

Yes, there is a relay, along with the bulb and ballast. I don't know why you're getting the yellowish hue. I haven't experienced that.

Maybe you have a 3000k bulb...

I just tried the bulb out tonight and the light output was great. The yellowish color is only at the top section of the beam and you can only see it when it reflects off of objects. The rest of the beam is super bright white. It actually looks kinda cool, so I'm going to use it until it burns out. It's an Osram Xenarc 4300K (it's probably a few years old already). When I replace it I'll probably go up to 6000K for a little more color. Thanks for the replies !
