hey guys new to the forum. but a tech for these bikes.
Hey guys I dont own a hawk but have a lil po dunk shop in charleston S.C. and it seams that the 96 hawk here in town have found me. I work on allot of these and REALLY like this motorcycle. I own kawi's but i like the amount of bike you get per $ in the hawk. We are ALWAYS working on these bikes so if you guys need any tech info let me know i will be glad to help if i can. Here are some upgades i have seen that have impressed me.
I dont like D&D but on the hawks there nice. saw one with high mount carbon canisters, sounded good! LP lower cal. this thing completes the bike! def a must! Corbin seats everyone has them so must be nice! lighter wheels. WOW makes bike flickable like you wouldnt imagine! Later folks Randy |
AH!! problem were seeing. if you wreck the rearsets are very labor intensive to replace vs other bikes.

hey i am having a problem with mine. i believe it is that stator. i can charge the battery and run it for a bit but the gauges give out and it the engine eventually cuts off. i bought a brand new battery and it still did it. there is a new voltage regulator rectifier on it. what do you think?
|
This is a comon bike problem. 1st swap the reg/rectifier out again if you can. YES people ship bad parts! 2nd step would be the stator. sucks i know but that is the next step.... There is a way to test but for those tools you really should stop by your local shop....
As a added tip clean the contacts for the rectifier plug. {Common R-6 problem.} when the rectifier goes it usually arc's in the plug making bad contacts. Hope it helps Randy |

is there a way to take a voltage tester and put on the stator or maybe a couple wires before the stator to check it?

Welcome!
What Kaw do you ride? Back in the day I had the pleasure of ridding my dad's Kz900 that was nowhere near stock and was pulling near 100 ft/lbs of torque right off the line, so I just held on and grinned:) |

If you have a manual on the bike it will tell you witch prongs to test for ac current going to the regulator and what volts it should be. i would start there. try searching the net for a pdf of your bike. Thanks for the welcomes I have a 636 and I use to race a zx10r currently building a zx14. My chick rides a gsxr750 |
WoW! Must be real nice to have a shop and 3 bikes around to ride at a time depending on your mood:)
