Help identify this hose...

Today in my pre-ride inspection, I found this hose (see attachment) hanging just in front of the shock. I followed it from this end through the engine and around to the front of the bike, near the oil filter, where it was bundled with another open-ended hose.

I can't find it in my Haynes manual... It looks to me like it *MAY* have fallen out of a small clear hose that's connected to the bottom of the fuel tap, under the gas tank... but that's speculation based on the termination point at the front of the bike and how the plastic tip seems to fit into said clear hose.

I'd appreciate any input.

I've found some info on "PVLIR" in my searches. By the posts I've found, I can't tell if the clear hose on the bottom of the gas tap needs to be there. If it doesn't, can I get rid of the hose in the picture? If not, WHERE DOES THIS HOSE GO?!

It the tank vent line and should hook to the small hose coming from the bottom of the tank not the fuel tap.

Thank you for that response. I see two vents coming from the tank. In the photo below they are the clear blue hose and that dirty black hose that goes out of frame on the right side. I'm guessing that at some point, that blue vent was a replacement... maybe the white nipple from the first picture was a "hack" to join the blue one with the termination at the front of the bike... At some point I'll probably replace both.

Let me know if there is anything obviously wrong with my thinking....

I keep thinking about selling the 'Hawk, but I just can't. So I'd better start replacing all the 15 year old things that are wearing out!

Thanks, again.

The small line is the vent and the large line is the overfill drain.

Yeah the blue hose is a replacement as it should be a black rubber line.

On early bikes there is no fitting just a straight hose.
Later bikes had a fitting like that in the line.

Either way they are bot critical and the bike will run the same whether they are installed or not.

They just keep from dumping fuel on the engine if you overfill the tank. ;)

The white fitting with the hose is OEM. The blue, is not. Perhaps previous owner wanted to lengthen the hose, or simply replace it.

As far as replacing hoses because they are 15 years old, is probably not necessary. Check for cracked or hardened hoses on the fuel supply lines to the carbs. Replace if so. The other line to verify is the small impulse line to the petcock (comes from the rear cylinder) if also cracked and dried up, then go ahead. As for the rest, they are mostly vent, or overflow lines.
