I BELIEVE THESE ARE WHERE THE CARB VENTS (SNORKELS) COME INTO THE AIR BOX. I KNOW THAT WHEN I REPLACED MY OEM FILTER WITH A K/N, THE K/N CAME WITH BOOTS OR COVERS FOR THIS AREA. I ALSO KNOW IF YOU'RE USING THE K/N TO CAREFULL WITH THOSE BOOTS, CAUSE IF THEY GET LOOSE THEY CAN DROP DOWN THE CARB THROAT.

those are for small filters for the back end of the carb I think. They are very thin spongy filters. If you install a k&n filter it comes with two blocks to cover them up completely. The k&n filter installation PDF shows them in detail.

well ,those plates i made are coming right back off ,,i took it for a tester ,and it acts like its starving for air or something ,it took forever for it to come up on rpm's and wouldn't even try to pull the front wheel off up .I'm pretty sure it's got the K&N air filter but ,the PO must've done something with the other stuff for it cause it's not there , I think the guy was a tweaker or something ,i am finding all sorts of 1/2 assed crap on this bike ,,,but i ain't giving up on her she has all kinds of potential

They supply air to the vacuum slides in the carbs. They cannot be blocked off, they should have filter foam in them.

K&N should be able to supply you the rubber caps that you need to go over the filter foam.

Yes and no. They do block it off to provide a closed system. But in the pics above the plates stop the airflow entirely. This is the problem.

Those holes you can see are allowing the air to move. The K&N covers allow this to happen as they are about 25mm high, and those block-off plates don't.
