hard cold starts everytime with a backfire

my bike always backfires before it starts. also usually takes a cpl tries before she fires. but i have noticed if i hook it up to my yellow optima in my truck the extra cca fires it right up..wierd.. battery is new and lives on a maintainer when not riding has new stator plugs coils r/r. as far as i know all my grounds are good as well as general wiring. starts when warm just fine...
is she getting too much fuel at startup?
why does the extra battery juice fire it right up with no bs?

Maybe (just maybe) the voltage getting to the coils is a little low, so with the extra battery power the sparks are stronger? I had a midrange misfire on my ST1100, turned out to be some corrosion on the big red connector that feeds power to/from the right bar switches.

also forgot to mention i do have cbr600 stick coils as well. it made no improvement with starting issue. although overall it seems to run smoother.

I have done the coil on cap mod and it made a difference to how my bike started.

Even after not riding it for a few weeks and the clock resetting itself to 00:00 it starts with the coil mod whereas before the mod I would have to use a jumper to start her if the clock had reset itself.

On the basis of that I would check the wiring for the coil on cap mod. You never know!

It also sounds like it could be rich at idle.A carb sync and idle drop may improve that situation.

Good luck.

If you've had the carbs off recently, make sure they are well seated. Mine was doing this and I later found out it was the front carb not being well seated, creating an air leak/lean condition and a whole lot of backfiring and unwillingness to start....
