My head light went out on me the other night. And now my high beam wont work at all. Any ideas?

Switch problem?

Check continuity of the headlight bulb and for current to the connector.

New bulb?

I'd approach this is follows:
Check fuse C (black box right under the seat behind the battery), 20A Inspect headlight bulb, look at the filaments they often will be broken or with little melted balls when they blow, which can be just age/vibration related. If you have a multimeter set this to voltage and check for 12v between the centre (earth) and a side terminal in the headlight socket, high beam works one side, low beam on the other. Then check for continuity in the bulb the same way. If the fuse is OK, the bulb is Ok, but you have no power at the socket, then it is time to start working along the circuit to identify a break in a wire, or more likely corrosion at a connector. |
It could also be the R/R (Regulator/Rectifier) on its way out. What R/R do you have? Is it stock?
Do you have a multimeter which you can use to see if the charging system is working correctly? Check the simple things first, like change the bulb. |
