Good place to tap harness 12vdc?
If you added a set of relay controlled accessory terminals where did you pick up switched dc to operate the relay?
I put heated grips on months ago but have yet to use them because I keep changing my mind about where to power them from. (cheap&dirty vs long term satisfaction) Also debating the costs/benefits of making up my own relay & terminals vs Eastern Beaver kit or other high end premanufactured system. |
On two of my bikes I picked up a live and earth feed from the wires to the tail lights and connected this to the switching side of the relay, mounted down near the battery. Then ran a feed with an inline fuse from the battery + to the switched side of the relay. The switched output from the relay then goes to your heated grips. The earth from the heated grip can go direct back to the battery - or to a suitable earthing point on the chassis.
The above only makes sense if your tail lights are always on. |
Makes sense, pretty clean & dry back there.

If you are looking for a spot in the front of the bike you could use the power to the running light......at least then it would be good for something..... ;)

My preference is to install a fuze block from FZ1, FUZEBLOCKS.COM
and all accessory attach top that. Be that as it is.. if all you need is a key on relay trigger, you can use the front running light circuit at either front turn signal, or the tail light positive circuit, choose which ever is closer to your mounted relay. But do consider the FZ1 fuse block... If your going to use separate relays, the 20A micro relay made by Matsushita (Panasonic) are a great unit. These are sealed type with high temperature housings and the mini relays are awesome for bike use. You can also get them with or without a mounting tab, and a 4 pin socket that fits them perfectly. I get most of my circuit and wiring products from Terminals-Connectors-Accessories (the site is down for main till the 14 Apr, but you can still email joe@cycleterminal.com and order. If you need cycle Terminal part numbers for them ask and I'll look at invoices and figure it out. EDIT.. found it Micro Relay - Mounting Tab Item# MR20-N-5 $9.95 USD 1 $9.95 USD Relay Socket Item# Relay Base YF250B $2.75 USD 2 $5.50 USD |
The experience is appreciated guys. Thank you!

Having placed some orders with Cycle Terminal I can give five stars rating for the experience.
